New Year, new home?

Now the New Year is well underway we start to look at what we might do differently this year; some of us say, "I must loose weight", some say "I must get fitter" and some of us say "we must look at decorating our home"; that is stuck in the last decade...

We all agree it is often cheaper to refurbish or extend your house than it is to move, but where do you start? The television and radio is full of adverts telling us we need a new bed or sofa to create that "dream room".  So although there are some great bargains to be had we don't always need to throw away our furniture to create a new look.  In this blog I will guide you on some new paint colour trends for 2015 that can create a completely new style with the addition of perhaps a new rug, throw, cushions and curtains.

It is important that your house reflects your lifestyle and feels like home. So your choice of colour will always differ from one person to another and more importantly from one room to another whilst maintaining a positive flow throughout. "Your home is your sanctuary."

To create that "gorgeous room" this year, I have taken a look at some new colours that this year will inspire us to get decorating!

Farrow & Ball have recently launched 4 new colour trends for 2015.

Breakfast Room Green: Inspires a fresh, botanical and calm feel.

Light Blue: Inspires an oasis of calm, softness and relaxation.

Pink Ground: Inspires a feeling of warmth, natural beauty and softness.

Tanner's Brown: Inspires a dramatic, timeless, artisan look.

The trend for 2015 is definitely moving towards the pastels tones and there are many paint companies following these trends, with their own variation on shades and names to suit every taste.  It is important to express there is also a desire for more saturated colours that will give a powerful statement to any room, use carefully with lighter colours on ceilings and floors to give a feeling of space and expression.

Accent colours - these are colours that are complimentary to the main colour of a room, Farrow & Ball along with other top quality paint companies will advise on accent colours to compliment the main colour. Remember to use sparingly but sufficient to make an impact, often vibrant. You can also use painted furniture, a vase, cushion or rug to illustrate this.

Happy New Year... happy painting!
